Lots of movies involve time travel, but sadly many of those make incredibly poor use of the concept. (*cough* Looper *cough* *cough*) Which do it really well? Why? (3/31/2023)
Uh Everything Everywhere All at Once anybody? I mean The Batman and RRR were pretty good don't get me wrong but... (3/31/2023)
Rushmore and The Grand Budapest Hotel are also high on my list, but I love Moonrise Kingdom the most. Great comedy, and a great story with kids as the main characters that doesn't shy away from the weird awkwardness of being a kid (especially around someone you are attracted to). Great film! It's hard not to vote for Princess Mononoke, with it's mature themes, awesome visuals, and great environmental message, but I have to give it to Spirited Away. The coming of age story that Chihiro experiences, the growth she goes through, and the incredible world and characters she encounters make for a wonderful moviegoing experience. Spirited Away is one of my favorite films of all time. (3/31/2023)
In twelve monkeys, Bruce Willis' character James Cole has a recurring dream throughout the movie. In it he sees a man shot dead at an airport, as a woman runs towards him screaming. Throughout the movie James is sent from the future to find out where a virus that devastated humanity came from, and see if it can be stopped or cured. At the very end of the movie, James has to don a disguise to avoid people pursuing him. While at the airport intending to run away from the virus which is about to be released on the world of the present, he sees the man he has determined to be the culprit for the release of the virus. He runs through security, trying to stop him - but he can't. He is shot dead, and he dies in the airport. In front of himself as a child - it had always been this way. He could never have stopped the virus, but in fulfilling his unavoidable destiny, he finds the pure virus and allows the people of the future to develop a cure. That's how to tie up time travel!
